Hung Yi’s works explore the nature of local art from the most popular colors in Taiwanese temple culture. This idea ingeniously takes the structural combinations of temple carvings and transforms them into a graphic creative medium. The two blue and white patterned inflatable pieces “Doggy Thrill” and “National Treasured Pandas” can be made larger reducing the relative size of viewers. This highlights a giant “toy” that is at once intimate and disproportionate to reality. Viewers may recall back to their childhoodand be reminded of the excitement and joy of the play room. Displayed on a disused space on the busy streets of East Gate Square in Taipei city, an intriguing dialogue landscape is the natural result.
