Korean artist Dong-Shik Roe grew up in his family’s cotton ginning factory, so cotton is naturally a connection to his carefree childhood. It is also the medium with which he hand kneads fluffy clouds. These clouds represent the memories that are fragile yet remain unforgotten in our consciousness, unlike the many things that slip past our attention and are gradually forgotten.
The series Air Show, with its realistic models, represents many young boys’ daydreams of flying through the air and drawing a pattern in the sky with smoke. Once viewers see this marvelous work, they will inadvertently begin to think of the many dreams they had as children.
※ This series is also on exhibit at Level 6ix Gallery.
