Images are our most primitive symbol. For many people, they always wish to have a shelf full of drawing books and pictorials. In particular, the pop up books are everyone’s favorites. With the turning of each page, surprising sceneries emerge. One page after another, one becomes immersed in the world of fantasy.
Japanese artist Takeshi Ishiguro is currently active in production, art, stage performances and other fields. His artworks, “Rice Salt & Pepper Shaker” and the “Chimney Humidifier” are permanently collected in the MoMA.
In his artwork “Pop up Book 2010,” one can see the desire and deficiency of the urban lifestyle in the area of nature. This is Takeshi Ishiguro’s main perspective for his creation. Through the main characters of nature and the butterfly, he presents the brief moment of beauty when the butterfly takes a rest, something that is rarely experienced in urban life. Through the surprise of art and the ingenuity of design, as well as physics and mechanical principles, the action of turning the page transforms into power, starting a beautiful fluttering of the wings.
