書櫃層層擺置的書本,是堆疊生活(或工作)與時間共同的積累,空置的房間內只留下一張書桌,與不斷翻動的裝置。

這個機械裝置「翻書機」,會將置放桌上的書本前端微微抬起,再由撥書桿與滾輪快速撥動書頁而產生微風;於此,書本成為一個風力製造的設備。這裡的閱讀者或懶散、或半夢半醒地趴在桌上任憑帶著書香味的微風吹拂臉龐,書頁裡的文字不停地在眼前掠過,像是速讀,同時也速忘。

從生活情節中尋找線索,注意身體感知的對話,藝術家劉瀚之創造出夾藏淡淡幽默與黑色喜劇的「類道具」,將互動裝置轉化為肢體(或思想)的刻意延伸,在平凡生活內,添加劇場性的旁觀與刻意,扭轉嚴肅也瓦解刻板,為日常劃開了一道呼吸的空縫。


The books stacked on bookshelves reflect the mundane lives, or work, piled up over time. In stark contrast, in an empty room stands a desk, a continuously rotating machine, and a single novel.

The Page Turning Machine is designed to slightly tilt the book towards one side. A rod on wheels quickly flips through the pages to create light breezes. Carrying whiffs of bookishness, they gently brush against the face of a reader that is slumped on the desk and dozing on and off. The text becomes merely glimpses, like speed reading, transient and easily forgotten.

Liu draws his inspiration from the scenes of life and from focusing on bodily perceptions. His series of “quasi-props” carry elements of light humor and black comedy. By making interactive devices into extensions of the bodies or thoughts, Liu adds theatrical spectacle and choreography into mundane life. His work breaks the solemn and the stereotypical, bringing fresh air into ordinary life.
