Carved out of rare wood, the paper box and bag have semi-realistic fold lines and signs of wear, exuding a warm, rustic feel as subtle and pleasant as the caress of of a cool breeze. They bring forth memories we associate with the objects, memories that have since been lost in time.

With precise and exquisite carving, artist Yang Pei-Chen recreates everyday objects that carry memories of certain points in our lives. In his opinion, many contemporary artists overemphasize intellectual and ideological breakthroughs, and have forgotten the raw, heart-touching power of art. While the realistic visuals are merely the final presentation, the key to understanding the pieces is viewing how the work reflects the artist’s pure and sentimental ingenuity.

The plaid-covered chairs and tables at the front entrance of Stupid Uncle boost customers’ craving for the café’s delicious crepes. A sign points to the secret cellar below, where visitors may relax on retro and classic sofas, as they might at a friend’s home. The diner not only serves tasty crepes and various drinks popular in France, but also features occasional live band performances.
