‘Interaction’ is an important element of Chao-Tsai Chiu’s creative process, and he incorporates audience participation into the rational language of mechanical sculpture, making use of witty humor to transform something everyday into a child-like game world.

Blowing bubbles is a childhood game for most people. At the moment the bubbles float away, the world around us unhinges from reality, and for a brief instant become as a dreamscape. The Bubble Cannon is a mechanical bubble-blowing installation, which relies on audience interaction to function. When a visitor rotates the knob, the machine kicks into action blowing bubbles of all sizes. This work is aimed at changing the atmosphere of real spaces; allowing viewers to recapture the dream-like qualities of their childhood while they watch the bubbles float away.

Reconstructed from what used to be the Songshan Tobacco Plant, The Songshan Cultural and Creative Park was designated as the 99th District historic site by the Taipei City government in 2001. To regenerate and restore its use, the park was revamped in 2011 to provide a place for diversified cultural and creative exhibitions. The park actively collaborated in a variety of cultural and art events, and organized design, audiovisual and cross industries exhibitions. After integrating various purposes such as education, guidance, exhibition and retail, the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park hopes to concentrate its existing resources and energy, transforming historic buildings into forerunning site for the development of design and cultural industries in Taipei City.
