...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to play Tetris in real life? Imagine seeing furniture, cupboards, boxes and such neatly stacked up, one above another.

That is what Swedish artist Michael Johansson does with used objects, morphing them into precisely stacked shapes and connecting them to a certain place. The newfound order separates the objects from their original purpose by creating a space where the familiar meets the unfamiliar.

Johansson uses old objects that correspond to the color scheme of the old tobacco factory, compressing them into the scene of a time gone by. These objects become an integral part of the solid whole, a concept that is seemingly both accidental and deliberate. As the viewer confronts this situation in a public space, he is left with a lingering sense of uncertainty.

Reconstructed from what used to be the Songshan Tobacco Plant, The Songshan Cultural and Creative Park was designated as the 99th District historic site by the Taipei City government in 2001. To regenerate and restore its use, the park was revamped in 2011 to provide a place for diversified cultural and creative exhibitions. The park actively collaborated in a variety of cultural and art events, and organized design, audiovisual and cross industries exhibitions. After integrating various purposes such as education, guidance, exhibition and retail, the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park hopes to concentrate its existing resources and energy, transforming historic buildings into forerunning site for the development of design and cultural industries in Taipei City.
